Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Capital City of Cambodia

Several of the guide books I read said that Phnom Penh could be missed and that rather it was just a gateway to get to Angkor. Well, Phnom Penh was really one of the highlights of my trip to Asia as it seemed quite authentic and was not flooded with tourists (ie the only thing Siam Reap has going for it is Angkor).  Walking through the market was definitely a highlight, and of course visiting the Killing Fields was a bit of a dose of reality.  Enjoy the pics...

The Killing Fields
Phnom Penh Cambodia Killing Fields
During the reign of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge from 1975-1979, approximately 21% of the Cambodian population died.  These skulls, along with thousands of others were preserved in a monument at one of the many "killing fields" in Cambodia.  Support the international tribunal that is still to this day trying those responsible for the crimes: http://www.cambodiatribunal.org/

and more after the jump...
